Xbox 360 is the second console manufactured by the world famous company Microsoft. It is the successor to the first gaming console, the Xbox. It has been developed with the help of other big companies like IBM and ATI. On the first day of its official launch on the United States it was completely sold out. According to Microsoft, as of early 2009 about 28 million units were estimated to be sold around the globe.
It comes in three special configurations, namely the “Arcade”, “Pro” and “Elite”, each with its own set of special features and accessories. The “Arcade” configuration includes a wireless controller, a 256 megabyte memory unit and five Xbox Live Arcade titles. It was released on October 2007 as the most affordable one among the three. The “Pro” configuration on the other hand is famous for its detachable 20 and 60 gigabyte hard disk drives, which can be used for saving games, video clips and demos. The “Elite” configuration is the most expensive of all the three, with lots of added features and enhancements. It boasts of a 120 gigabyte hard drive and a matte black finish and it costs about 500$.
The Xbox 360 has a wide array of games available with some of these games being exclusive for the Xbox console only. Out of these various selections of Xbox video games, Halo 3 sold about 8 million copies as of March 2009, far surpassing other titles. There are other famous games such as Left 4 Dead, NBA Live 2009 and StreetFighter that were ported by Microsoft into the console which also became big hits.
Xbox 360 is also known for its online gaming integration feature called Xbox Live. It comes in two varieties, the Free Xbox Live and the Paid Xbox Live. This feature enables the gamer to access an online store exclusively available with the use of the console called the “Marketplace”. Here the gamers can purchase games and other online content. They can also download freebies and get discounts. Truly, Xbox 360 has changed the way that console games are played with its outstanding features.
